S.T.A.N.D.I.N.G. TOGETHER IN TOLERANCE CHANGING HUMANITY is a new upcoming non-profit organization designed to counteract the effects of depression and suicide among gay teens in our educational system. The children are often left in the darkness; feeling hopeless and alone. Often times, gay teens seem to isolate themselves from society in fear of being different or letting the “monster” within bubble to the surface. The deepest and darkest secret of their lives is drowning them without lack of knowledge or strength. STITCH has been created to educate not only gay teens or the gay community, but parents, friends, teachers, and co-workers as well. The importance of the crusade is to create diversity, love and acceptance toward all human beings, no matter their differences. The simple things in life such as jokes, non-verbal as well as verbal communication can become dangerous grounds for someone identifying with their sexuality. A simple phrase or word “that’s gay” or “queer” can inflict pain, fear, as well as negative thoughts and feelings. Remaining on the sidelines of life, a gay teenager will hide behind a mask and only those closest will notice the subtle changes. By this stage, depression and suicide thoughts could be evident and it is important to seek help. I have often seen and heard many stories of parents blaming themselves, not understanding and criticizing the sexual orientation. The quality of life for an individual is worth more than the bigotry and hate. We can make a difference. We can learn and wear the shoes of others. We fear what we don’t understand and we hate what we fear. It is a vicious cycle. Education illuminates the darkness and destroys some of the lack of understanding. In this website you will find: 1. True Stories of others 2. That you are not alone 3. Statistics 4. Hate Crimes and how to avoid them 5. How to watch your body language and messages 6. Support Groups 7. Action committees 8. Alliances and how to begin them 9. Information on Depression and Suicide 10. Upcoming Events 11. Volunteering 12. The importance of Now 13. How to Break the News that you are gay 14. Our rights as citizens of the United States 15. Politics and News 16. The difference between Civil Unions and Marriages The world can change one person at a time. All it takes is one individual and one vision. A vision is one of the most powerful things in life. Just as the seasons come and go through the world, ideas happen just as rapidly. It is up to us to make a change or a difference. Obtaining a vision for a better future can be one of the most precious gifts. This is exactly what I have been doing through the years. As time has gone on, I have been gaining knowledge and support for a non-profit organization called S.T.I.T.C.H. (STANDING TOGETHER IN TOLERACNE CHANGING HUMANITY). This wonderful and powerful organization is a tool that will be used to educate society and all the citizens of America. The education will be as broad as diversity and tolerance and as deep as explaining how to start alliances within schools. Our behavior influences many people and for every action, behavior or communication, there is a reaction of sorts. A ripple in the water that will carry on throughout the future. Our ripple can either be damaging, or helpful. What kind of ripple do you want to be.? We can either stand together in hate, blaming others for the way our lives are run, or we can stand together spreading love and happiness as well as accepting everyone for who we are within. No, we don’t have to agree with them or even acknowledge the fact that we don’t agree, but in America everyone is to be created equal and our lives are succumbed with discrimination. I will no longer stand in the bleachers watching the game, but will march out to the field and meet our enemies head on to help the youth of the nation. Everyone deserves the right to be happy and equal, and the dreams and hopes of many will not be lost as long as I am here shielding the ones that can not defend themselves. STITCH is my armor, hope, and future. A better future for all to live as equals and not fear seclusion, hate, and injustice. When STITCH helps one person, the dedication and efforts of others will illuminate the golden hearts that many others will follow in the generations to come. We are the first soldiers and guards of Standing Together in Tolerance Changing Humanity.
The Goals and Vision of STITCH: The website is the first and foremost number one priority of STITCH. The Website will allow our youth to view the material in the privacy of their rooms and away from people that may judge them or find their lifestyles unaccaptable. This has been a vision of ours since the beginning. We wanted to make an environment that was safe and friendly to share stories, give advice, and valuable information. We find that it is important to know they homosexuals of members of the GLBT community are not alone and are able to seek help if it is needed. From the website, we are looking for writers, blog and articles as well as new ideas to bring traffic into the website as well as further the goal of bring the GLBT community together and help our youth. From the traffic, we can recieve adds from businesses and corporations that will help fund the webstie and keep the information alive and conitnue to grow and reach more of our audience. With the website in place, traffic, and ads, we will be able to market the website and grow. One of the things that we would like to do is create educational materials to offer to businesses and schools in order to counter discrimination, hate crimes and bigotry. Workshops and school funcations will be taking place. Some of the other goals that we are going to achieve include: A GLBT informational center A National Counseling Center Counselors and volunteers to help kids as well as adults that are seeking help Scholarships for students that are making communities a better place for people of the GLBT community Guest speakers Safe houses for kids that are kicked out of their homes for being gay or having difficulties with their sexuality Helping kids live their dreams of being able to attend prom. There is a gay prom available. There is also a summer camp for GLBT teens to attend. Creating a summer get-a-way for gay teens to learn about team building, acceptance and diversity. We also want to teach about the signs of suicide and depression and how to look out for people that are suffering and what to do. We would like to offer support groups for adults and teens and have counselors to help in grief counseling as well.
